Born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jared Seymour and Joey Cates share a lifelong passion for the people, stories, and waters that define the region. Jared has deep coastal roots and a long-standing love for conversation, community, and using media to highlight what makes the Gulf Coast special. Joey grew up on the Back Bay throwing a cast net, fishing every chance he could, and now brings that same passion to the water as the captain behind Heavy Metal Charters, giving others the chance to experience the Gulf the way he did growing up.

Together, they created Brown Water Banter to shine a light on local culture—from outdoor life and fishing to Gulf Coast businesses, bourbon, and the characters that make this place one of a kind. Whether they’re in the studio, on the water, coaching, teaching, or spending time with their families, Jared and Joey never miss an opportunity to share the stories that keep the coast connected.
